State of the Art MXN Profiling
In GMG OpenColor 3.0 and later, an improved MXN profiling technology is used that lets you create high-resolution multicolor profiles up to 15 times faster than before. At the same time, the finished file will be about 90% smaller compared to the legacy profiling, so your database will require less storage space overall.
Higher resolution. About 90% smaller. Up to 15x faster.
The format stays, the quality improves
The profiling technology has changed, but the format name remains the same: your files will still have the extension .mxn. If you want to check if a specific proof profile was created with the latest MXN profiling, you can look it up in the profile settings.
- Open the Database tab.
- Under Proof Profiles, select the relevant profile to show the information pane on the right side.
- Check the value under Latest MXN Profiling.
If the value is Yes, the profile was created with latest MXN profiling.
If the value is No, the profile was created with legacy MXN profiling.
Compatible with GMG ColorProof 5.14 and later
Profiles that have been created with the latest MXN profiling can be used with GMG ColorProof 5.14 and later. Proof Profiles for earlier versions can still be created with the legacy profiling to ensure compatibility.
Create profiles for GMG ColorProof 5.13 or earlier
If profiles are requested dynamically from GMG ColorProof 5.13 or earlier, GMG OpenColor will automatically use the legacy profiling to deliver compatible profiles. However, if you want to create a static MXN profile manually for those versions, you need to temporarily disable the latest MXN profiling.
We do not recommend you to disable the latest MXN profiling in general. So please don't forget to switch it back on after this particular use case to ensure the best profiling results for GMG ColorProof 5.14 and later.
- Start GMG OpenColor.
- From the icon menu at the top right, select Options > Preferences....
A dialog opens. - Under Profile Settings, disable the check box for Use latest MXN profiling.
- Click on Save to apply the changes.
- Restart GMG OpenColor for the change to take effect.
