New features

Fogra PSD Print Check Evaluation
With the new PSD Print Check Evaluation you are now able to use GMG ProofControl for both, the validation of proofs according to Process Standard Offset (PSO) as well as a Side-By-Side validation of digitial production prints according to Process Standard Digital (PSD).

The PSD addresses the growing demand for process stability in the digital production environment and will be included in ISO/TS 15311.

Validation is done based on the Fogra Mediawedge v3 with adjusted tolerances and criteria.
GMG ProofControl ships with a selection of reference printing conditions like FOGRA39 or FOGRA51; you are free to create your own custom standard however:
  1. On the toolbar of the GMG ProofControl main window, click Customize > Custom Print Standard. The New Print Standard dialog box is opened.
  2. Under Control Strip, select the Fogra_MediaWedge_V3_Eye-One.xml. The strip layout will be visualized.
  3. On the toolbar, click the Open button to select the Standard XML according to your reference printing condition, for example, "PSO-Coatedv3-51_MediaWedgeV3_WB_M1.xml". The Standard XML will define the target values for each patch in the strip. The preview will be updated accordingly.
  4. From the Rule Set list on the toolbar, select a predefined Fogra PSD template, for example "PSD 2016 - Side-by-Side - Quality Type A". The template will configure the evaluation rules applied to the strip and to the patches according to the Fogra standard. For example, the Maximum delta E will be set to 4.50.
  5. Click Name to enter a suitable name for the new print standard, for example, "Fogra PSD Type A - PSO Coated v3 (51)".
  6. Click Save and close the dialog box.

Support of FOGRA53 and FOGRA54
This verion of GMG ProofControl features the addition of the new print standards FOGRA53 and FOGRA54.

FOGRA53 is a CMYK-based media-neutral color exchange space that primarily serves color communication throughout the print production, including copy preparation, job assembly, proofing, and process color printing.

FOGRA54 characterizes a web offset heatset printing process using PS6 (super calendered uncoated SCB) medium.

New Critieria: Quantile
The max dE validation criteria has been supplemented by a freely definable Quantile parameter. The Quantile - currently used mainly for the PSD validation- causes the max dE to only take  the set percentage of patches into account (e.g. the deviation that covers 95% of all patches), ignoring outliers that would otherwise have an undesired impact on the result.

New color difference formula: Weighted Delta Ch
The formula Weighted Delta Ch is required for evaluating the grey reproduction with the G7 method.
Calculating with this formula decreases the weight of the dark 3c grey areas, that are typically printed as 1c black.

Improved measurement with X-Rite i1Pro 2
Improvements to driving the measurement device made measurements with the X-Rite i1Pro2 easier and more accurate han before. Furthermore measurement of spot color strips can now be ended after measuring the final printed spot color patch (as opposed to having to measure the whole theoretical length of the control strip)
An additional benefit is a notable decrease in "invalid" M1 measurement attempts.

Rule sets for custom standards
GMG ProofControl 2.4 now features saving custom validation rules as templates. Those templates can then be applied to new standards with a few clicks and without having to manually change every single rule.

Microsoft Excel support
GMG ProofControl now supports import and export from/to Microsoft Excel.
Save your measurement data as Excel file to create and visualize statistics
or use MS Excel features for editing your custom standard and loading the data into GMG ProofControl.

Free text filter for print standard list
The list of print standards can now be filtered by print standard, control strip and measurement device using free text, making administration of a large number of ProofStandards easier than ever.

Saving and importing list of print standards
The state (active/inactive) of print standards in the list (Options -> Print standards) can now be saved an imported. Using this feature configuring different, matching installatons of GMG ProofControl 2.4 to provide a unified working environment throughout the company (or with customers) is just a matter of seconds.

Native 64bit support
From this version on, GMG ProofControl is a native 64-bit application and as such takes full advantage of the benefits of a 64-bit operating system and hardware performance, for example the memory and CPUs. The application will run faster and perform optimally, especially when processing large amounts of measurement data. Thus, you can save valuable time and work as efficient as you can expect from your computer hardware.

End of Life

Please note that we will no longer provide bug fixes, maintenance releases, workarounds or patches for bugs found in GMG ProofControl 2.3.0.47 or earlier versions.
