Cause
Due to improvements in the DotProof profile calculation technology in the previous GMG OpenColor versions, the ink gradations curve was not displayed correctly anymore. To prevent misapplication, the ‘ Dotgain’ tab in the profile edit dialog was removed for DotProof (MXD) profiles calculated in GMG OpenColor 2.2.2 and higher versions.
Versions overview
GMG OpenColor 2.2.3 and 2.2.2: The ink gradation curve and the edit functionality is unavailable for DotProof profiles. Only for DotProof profiles which were created in previous versions, a curve is displayed, which can be edited.
GMG OpenColor 2.2.1: The ink gradation curve is displayed and can be edited. This version does, however, not include the profile calculation improvements.
Workaround: Use Color Corrections to edit the curve
- Step 1: Adjust the ink gradations in the color correction tool on the project level
- Step 2: Calculate a contone profile
- Step 3: Use this contone profile in a proof to validate the ink gradation. Adjust the ink gradations in the color correction tool if necessary.
- Step 4: Create the DotProof profile as the very last step
This is the generally recommended procedure for creating GMG OpenColor DotProof profiles. The adjustments are performed on the project level. This means that the corrections will be applied to all future profiles in this project.
Solution
At a future point in time we will release a GMG OpenColor version which allows to edit the dotgain curve of DotProof profiles.
