Use GMG OpenColor to Standardize Your Press

To be able to create a separation profile in GMG OpenColor, you first need to define your press condition. Then, you define the ink settings.

1. You will need a proof profile describing your press condition. To check, open a suitable project in GMG OpenColor and click the Proof tabbed page. Expand the Finalize group.
   There should be at least one proof profile. If there is none, navigate to the Tools & Actions pane and click one of the Calculate buttons. Wait until the calculation is finished and the profile is shown in the Statically Calculated Profiles list.
2. Click the Separation tabbed page.
   The Target Color Space derived from the proof profile describes your press condition.
3. On the Tools & Actions pane, under Tools, click the Ink Settings button.
   The Ink Settings dialog box is displayed.
4. Select the Screen Angles and click OK.
5. On the Tools & Actions pane, under Profiles, click the CMYK/RGB to CMYK button.
6. Select the ICC profile that you like to emulate on your press such as PSO Coated also known as FOGRA51 or GRACoL.
7. Adjust any parameters such as the Total Area Coverage to your preference.
8. Click the Calculate button at the bottom of the project page.
   You can monitor the calculation progress on the left of the Calculate button.
9. Once calculated, click the Publish button on the Tools & Actions pane to make that profile available for use in GMG ColorServer. (You only need to publish the profiles from a project once. If you already had published any profile from the project before, the Publish button will not be available.)
10. Click the Save or Save & Close button on the toolbar to save your changes.

Calculated separation profiles with CMYK output color space (1) in GMG OpenColor. Click the Publish button to publish all separation profiles in this project. The label Do Not Publish on the button (2) indicates that the profiles have already been published.

You can now import the calculated profile to GMG ColorServer.

Via a direct connection between GMG OpenColor and the GMG ColorServer server, you can easily import the profile.

1. Make sure both the GMG OpenColor application and the GMG ColorServer server are running.
2. Start the GMG ColorServer client application.
3. Click the Resources tabbed page. On the navigation pane on the left, click OpenColor Projects.
4. Double-click the OpenColor project containing the separation profile.
   You will see all resources that are available in this project ant that you can use in GMG ColorServer.
5. Select the profile in the list and click the Import Profile button on the toolbar.
6. On the navigation pane on the left, click MX Profiles to rename the imported profile.
7. Select the imported profile in the list, open the context menu, and click Rename File.
8. Type in a new name such as the project name.
9. Save your changes.

After the import, we can create a Conversion resource from this profile.

1. Click the Resources tabbed page. On the navigation pane on the left, click Conversion.
2. Click the New button.
   The application will open a new Conversion tabbed page.
3. On the bottom, select the MX4 icon and drag it to the CMYK processing chain.
   The application shows a new dialog box.
4. Select the imported conversion profile.
   The dialog box shows that the profile was created from an OpenColor resource.
5. Click the OK button.
6. Enter a name for the conversion template.
7. On the toolbar, click the Save or the Save and Close button to save the new resource.

This Conversion resource can then be applied to a hotfolder.

A hotfolder using the conversion template allows you to automate the conversion.

1. In the main window of the client, click the Hotfolders tabbed page.
2. On the navigation pane on the left, click PDF Hotfolder.
3. Click the New button.
   The application will open a new PDF Hotfolder tabbed page.
4. Scroll the form. In the Workflow group, under Conversion, select the Conversion template you created.
5. Enter a name for the hotfolder.
6. Fill in the mandatory fields in the form until all validation messages have disappeared.
7. Save your changes.
